“FWAG-SW are leading a partnership to take Typha to commercial scale in Somerset with studies ranging from establishment to biomass harvesting (LogLogic). The partnership includes commercial farmers with significant expertise in traditional arable crop production and managing wetland sites at scale, including peat soil (RSPB). The project leverages local experience together with the extensive work pioneered by KWR in the Netherlands to accelerate development of Typha as a commercial crop in the UK, including low cost establishment and harvesting methodologies. Trial crops will help to develop critical learning around water quality management and the local ecological sensitivities (particularly important for Somerset given the large areas of designated sites on peat).”
