“Watervision Agriculture is a modelling framework used to quantify the effects of hydrology and climate on agricultural crop yields. The system, based on the SWAP and WOFOST models, is widely applied in the Netherlands. Despite earlier improvements, several limitations remained, including shortcomings in the representation of drought stress on clay soils and root development.
The project Improvement and Validation of Waterwijzer Landbouw (VV-WWL) addressed these issues by introducing mechanistic water uptake, adaptive root growth, and updated crop parameters. In addition, the model has been adapted for use with new climate scenarios and has been extensively validated using field and practical data.”
