“A sewer mining project in Athens is testing augmented reality (AR) to drive public engagement. With a very high replication potential across Europe, Jos Frijns, researcher at KWR Water Research Institute, asks whether it has potential for the UK water sector.
The Nextgen demo site in Athens investigates an augmented reality (AR) smartphone app that allows people to “see behind the curtain” of water treatment and engage in a circular development. Located in Goudi, a decentralised “sewer mining” unit treats wastewater to be reused at the urban tree nursery. The demo site explores three aspects of the circular economy: optimisation of water resources, nutrient mining and reuse and energy generator practices.”
